Let's kick things off with some numbers
Happy Thursday, everyone! Medium always kind of sucks on Thursdays so it’s a good day to touch base with you all.
First things first
For those of you who replied to my pop-up pay it forward email last week, thank you! Your karma is coming, I’m just a little behind but I will be featuring your stories in an upcoming Medium post. I appreciate your responses.
Now, for an interesting tidbit
I don’t know how closely you’ve been stalking your stats since the new Medium earnings kicked in on November 1st. Remember a few letters ago when I mentioned I’m also writing under a pen name? Because of her I was able to pick out some really fascinating information about this new earning system.
My pen name hardly ever writes, yet she’s close to kicking my real profile’s butt in earnings. In case you missed it:
How many of you work a job outside the home, in addition to writing? If you do, do you keep your writing totally separate from your work life? If someone from your job found your writing profile would you be concerned with what they might read?
A couple of weeks ago, I logged into Medium and the little green notifier told me that not one, but TWO coworkers are now following my writing. It shook me a little, wondering how far back they’ve gone. What do they know?
When Your Coworkers Find Your Stories
Those coworkers are non-paying Medium members so I was banking on the fact that maybe they’d used up their monthly free reading quota by the time I wrote this next piece. It directly involved them.
When Married People Make it Awkward for Singles
When I look back over some of the ventures I’ve attempted and failed at, sometimes I wish I’d just stuck with the one thing I know best — writing. Where would I be now if I had kept at it, rather than attempting bigger things that I knew nothing about?
Writing really is the BEST startup venture one can delve into. Have you made it your full-time job yet?
Although I haven’t jumped back into travel writing just yet, it’s in the works. It’s interesting what you can learn through many years of not taking it seriously. All that information can be carried forward with intent and purpose, and turned into something much bigger than it was before.
That’s the angle I’m working on in the new year. And by the way…I’ll be doing a call-out to other writers who may want to jump on board, so stay tuned!
In the meantime, I’ve put together this mini how-to guide for writers who have a penchant for travel. Hint: This is the direction I think I’m headed in 2020, but on a much bigger level.
How to Travel for Free, Just by Writing About It
I want to be this woman again….soon!
Thanks for subscribing and have a fantastic weekend! May all your Medium dreams - and life dreams - come true!
