Hey you! It’s been a minute since my last email and it was intentional. There’s a ton of newslettering going on around Medium lately, and it feels overwhelming.
My inbox overfloweth and so doth my brain.
I’ve noticed a lot of writers are now trying to charge money in order for you to read their newsletters. I’m not sure how I feel about that. Especially the writers I’ve subscribed to because I don’t see that they’re teaching anything. They’re still using email as a diary but want people to pay to read it.

Having said that, I am paying to read one particular newsletter. Not because I want to read a diary full of links, but because he’s actually teaching a topic I wish to learn. There IS a way to tactfully charge for your information. Find out who’s doing it and why I paid.
How to Tactfully Charge Money For Your Newsletter (double curated)
Another thing glaring at me from the bottom of the newsletter dogpile are the number of emailers who NEVER respond to those who reply. I have replied to more than one newsletter sender, asking for more info on what they sent to me in the first place, and …..CRICKETS.
One emailer even asked for feedback, yet when I gave it I heard nothing in return.
That’s a shitty way to show your audience that you appreciate them for subscribing. If you’re trying to build anything beyond writing for Medium it’s in your best interest to be a writer that others can vouch for.
What happens when you need testimonials for your new writing business? Nothing…if you ignore your audience. Or, you could try being a kickass person and love your audience enough that they love you right back when you need them.

And finally, just to prove I’m not crusty over everything, here’s a humor piece I wrote about another guy who seems to like ignoring the important parts of life - aka humans.

I’m going to leave it at that for now. I feel those who do read this particular email can learn something from it. And I’ll never you charge money. I’m big on karma instead.
Toodles for now. I can’t believe it’s almost March already!
