If not for shameless self promotion, I don’t know what value I’m really adding to your lives by having a newsletter. Clearly I don’t stick to a regular mailing schedule, but then that’s me in real life too. I’m a spur of the moment type person.
At least I have real life excuses for not being a regular mailer. Last month my excuse was puppy-sitting and that was REAL. That canine critter legit wouldn’t let me sit down and write for more than 3 seconds.
This month, I also have a legit excuse. I had surgery.
It’s hilarious how I thought I’d get a free week off work to write my ass off while sitting at home in pajamas. But the truth of the matter was that the surgery kicked my butt, made my eyes swell shut, and caused so much pain that typing was the last thing I wanted to do. Just taking a shower knocked me down for the count.
But I’m throwing out ALL the amazing kudos to the doctors who had to put up with my panic-stricken behavior. They were wonderful, as I wrote about here:
Bedside Mannerisms and Bad Patients.
I’m recovering fine now, I only look like a circus freak but no longer feel like one. And THANK YOU to all who reached out in the past week to pass along your well wishes. I truly appreciate it.
Here’s a quick recap of a few pieces I was able to pump out right before surgery, and surprisingly, in the days following it.
TRAVEL
How to save $2315.00 on your next vacation. It’s absolutely doable!
My time in “The Ghetto.” The most enlightening travel experience I’ve ever had.
MEDIUM & WRITING
The least inspiring places to write. A rebuttal to another writer’s MOST inspiring.
The 3-Cent story graveyard. Where all the Medium stories go to die.
The 4 personality types of writers on Medium. Where do you fit in?
And one of my personal favorites, in honor of all the Medium writer wars that keep happening:
Medium doesn’t like everything. But it sure seems to love a good dose of drama.
REAL LIFE STORIES
There’s no normal life, there’s just life. This story breaks my heart a little. Literally right after hitting “publish,” I found out the woman I mentioned in the story had passed away. It didn’t sit very well with me.
If you need to break down, break all the way. Make it a good meltdown, and then get back up again.
When was the last time you recognized beauty in others? You should try it. It changes lives.
Thank you for continuing to follow me on Medium and may all our writing journeys be exactly what we want them to be!
Next newsletter, I’ll have some actual news for you. I’ve been writing under a second Medium profile, a pen name. I’ll be sharing how she (my alter ego) is doing. She bought me a coffee with her very first story!
Have a great week!
