It’s the beginning of a new month, it’s springtime (almost), and our Medium paychecks will be hitting the bank by the weekend. Yaay us!
I don’t know about you but I’ve grown to love the Medium gravy train, no matter how much it is. My savings have grown and my debts have shrunk. Add to that my tax return, which hit my bank in record timing, and it’s the start of a great financial springtime.
March madness.
However, there IS a little sadness going on in the background. The sadness of taking a giant step back from publishing. That’s what I’ve decided to do in the last few weeks, for a couple of reasons.
Readership is WAY down, unless you put the word SEX in your titles.
A shift in focus, to more fruitful endeavors a.k.a. my own business endeavors outside of Medium.
First I’d like to share my only two stories published this month. One was a piece of true grit that didn’t hit. The other has SEX in the title but the jury is still out on whether it’ll hit or not. **insert curators sipping their coffee for days**
What does and doesn’t hit these days is anyone’s guess.
I can’t imagine the monumental burden of having just 90 days to figure out exactly how you’re going to set yourself up for success…or failure. Add to those 90 days, the fact that society isn’t set up to assist the underdogs with success.
Wouldn’t we all love to stop working for a living and have someone pay for the privilege of spending time with us? I don’t think I could ever fake a relationship just to get paid. Especially if it was with a man I’m not attracted to.
Here’s a look into alternate lifestyles we may not be privy to.
Now, here’s an interesting thing I’ve discovered about myself while exploring the launch of my own business. I’ve been building my website for weeks now and while it looks amazing, clean, and fresh…the words suck!
How is it that as a writer, I can’t write about myself in a business sense?
I’m so tired of talking about myself and what I can do that I’m literally stumped for words to plop into my website. These are the times I wish someone else knew me the way I do, and could just whip me up some grand words to populate a blank website.
Have you ever had this happen to you? What tricks have you used to get yourself off the hamster wheel of blah blah blah, when writing about your skills?
Those are real questions and I’d love to hear your responses. Reply if you’ve got some magical formula you use.
That wraps up this installment of March madness. I’m sure I’ll reach out one more time before the month is out. In the meantime, I hope you’re all killing it with your writing!
