I was going to send out my usual newsletter this morning but it seemed so moot considering what’s going on right now. So instead, I’m utilizing my online space for the purpose that #BlackoutTuesday is intending.
Today is not about me or you or social media. It’s about a movement. It’s about listening and educating. It’s about freeing up the time usually dedicated to social media for people to educate themselves on the Black Lives Matter movement.
If you haven’t already done so, show your solidarity by using this image on your social profiles today, with the hashtag #blackouttuesday.
If you’re American (I think most of you are) I’m sure you’re not blind to the history of your country. Racism and the ultra shitty treatment of black people is not new. It’s just being captured and exposed more now than ever, and it needs to STOP.
Acts of violence against people of color are making their way into mainstream media almost instantly now that we have the capability, and we need to start holding everyone accountable, no exceptions.
If you’re at all inclined to want to learn more about the history of racism and the plight of African Americans for the last few centuries, here’s a link to a fantastic documentary I stumbled onto yesterday.
Watch it and share it. Get educated, get enlightened, and get on board.
That’s all for today. Stay safe and please do your part in supporting the Black Lives Matter movement. There is NO more room for racism.
