Yes, I’m a bit hung up on that word today because it’s exactly what’s happened with this newsletter recently. We’ve had a SURGE of new subscribers and I’m not sure what to attribute it to, but YAAY us!
And WELCOME, new subscribers!
Although I didn’t surge out of bed today (or any other day), I’ve skipped into September with a bit of new energy. Perhaps it’s due to the mental health day I took off work last week.
Who Needs Mental Health Days After 3 Months Off Work?
Everyone I know needs it lately. That’s who.
I’m coming at life from a new angle these days and it feels good. Allowing ourselves to take some pressure off and just flow is good for the soul. I’m not trying to write every day, I’m just trying to exist and see where the tides take me.
Letting go of stats, obligations, and all that shit that takes up space in our brains opens new doors. Just stop for a minute and take time to reflect. Trust me, great things happen.
How To Fall Back in Love With Your Own Writing
Other writers are doing some great things too, and I’d like to make special mention of some of them.
Charles Roast runs a fairly new publication called Dad-Bods and believe me when I tell you you’ll love it. It’s not just for dads, or bods, or men for that matter. But it’ll make your day and he’s looking for writers.
And because I love dads, and bods, AND men I sometimes write for the pub. This was my latest submission. See what I mean about making you smile?
Men Are Like a Bag of Bits and Bites
Sherry McGuinn and P.G. Barnett have also launched a new publication called The Top Shelf, and I fully support their reasoning behind it. Sherry explains it best in their submission guidelines, but suffice it to say that this new publication has standards and expects quality.
How refreshing.
The rule of 7 suggests that you need to hear a message at least seven times before taking action. This is probably number four in this newsletter.
As many of you know (because I keep reminding you), I’ve launched a new travel blog and it’s open to any and all writers who would love a home without creating their own home.
Sort of how you are not good looking or high functioning straight out of bed in the morning, neither is a new blog without a ton of hours invested.
But there IS a way to dip your toes into travel writing without spending the time to launch a travel blog. If you’re into toe-dipping I’ve got the pond.
We’ve already got a couple of great Medium writers contributing and we’ve got room for at least a hundred more. Clown cars can fit a hundred clowns, right?
That’s it for today, my job is done here. Again, welcome, and THANK YOU for subscribing. I appreciate this little community of writers more than you know!
Have a fantastic rest of your weekend!
Kristi
I'm definitely NOT surging out of bed in the morning... :). Instead, with bleary eyes, I check out my notifications and see how long I can possibly stay in bed before my bladder bursts. I prefer to drink my coffee in peace, but this rarely happens.
Love your newsletters! It's probably one of the very few I read. Keep it up.
Thanks so much for the shout-out, Kristi. Love your newsletter. I sort of surged this morning, but it wasn't full-on. Maybe tomorrow. ;-)
