Back in my travel blogging days, one thing I detested the most was sending out calls for action to over 5000 followers and in return, I’d get….
The most frustrating aspect of being a community leader is passive members. Sorry guys, you just put yourselves into that category. Last week, I sent out a funny self-isolation activity to entertain us all and ZERO of you responded.
The activity didn’t even require you to get out of your chair.
I guess you’re just not funny.
I’ll tell you what else isn’t funny. When you have only three articles pulling the entire weight of a Medium profile with nearly 300 other stories behind it. Do you face the same challenge in your profiles?
Personally, I’d like to see some churn in my top stories.
When Your Top Three Stories Won’t Go Away
I would also like some answers to real questions I have about this pandemic.
Legit Questions I Have About Isolation and Coronavirus
In other news, I’ve spent some of my self-isolation time on a brand new project. But I DO NOT want you to subscribe to it nor join the community if it doesn’t apply to you.
Why?
Because I don’t want a clammed up community over there. We’re pretty much living in silence right now and I don’t need more of it.
However, if you are a travel writer or know of any travel writers who are doers, feel free to send them over. My new community was created specifically for proactive writers who are interested in excelling at the craft of travel writing.
In the words of one of my favorite newsletter creators, Josh Spector:
“I believe there are two types of people in the world – the Interested and the Uninterested.”
I’m looking specifically for the interested.
Just Checked In is an infant right now but I intend to build it bigger than my past travel community ever was, and believe me that one was big.
That’s all for this edition, thank you for being here. And Chuck, when you launch your newsletter let me know. I’d love to fan it out to my subscribers for you! Every little bit helps.
Until next time, stay safe, wash your hands, and keep writing!
Kristi
Sorry! Have been grappling with having no income for the foreseeable future, wondering if I'll see my family this year (they live in another hemisphere), having a glitch with Medium where I get logged out every 2 minutes, getting no reads on Medium or substack, whether my family might get sick, wishing my mother wasn't such a Boomer...the usual pandemic brain fart I guess...
What happens when the electric grid fails? We'll "Grrrrr" for the loss of "id." (If I ever lose you, please know how I love the way your voice as a writer punches a little dent in my screen!)
