YES, it’s been two whole months since I’ve sent a newsletter. And YES, I feel terrible each time I see a new subscriber get on board because I know I’m not keeping in touch.
Let’s change that. Starting now.
By the time you read this, I’ll probably know whether or not I still have a job in real life. In December we went through our second shut down at work, and have since entered into our third city lockdown.
At FOUR whole months this round, it is the longest period of time I’ve been unemployed since I can remember. I haven’t heard a peep from work since December 13th.
And today…I have been called in for a one-on-one meeting with management.
To be honest, I don’t even know what I want the outcome of this meeting to be. I am at peace with whatever they tell me and if I end up jobless, I accept that as the journey I’m meant to be on right now.
In other news, I’ve been noticing a significant change on Medium in the last couple of weeks and I’m not sure if it’s just me or if they’re doing something for the greater good behind the scenes again.
Stats are suddenly skyrocketing and I’ve got a case study to prove it.
Way back in December when Medium was still sucking, I wrote an article about certain spiritual incidents I’d been experiencing. This is the article I’m referring to:
How it Feels When the Dead Come Knocking
That story did not get distributed and it died a quick death.
Then, just a few weeks ago I basically duplicated that same story into this one:
Undeniable Evidence of Angels
The second one did get distributed and stats and earnings have flown off the charts. I mean, I haven’t seen these kinds of earnings since back in the day when Medium was a sure thing for me.
It’s weird because if you read both pieces, they pretty much contain the same story, just rearranged a little. In fact, the first story is much more detailed, yet it did so poorly.
That’s not the only one I’ve written that has done very well lately. My ‘Helicopter Dog Mom’ humor piece has also done far better than it should have. Maybe it’s because it attracted a lot of angry readers, which makes me giggle a bit.
Regardless, when you go from nothing to something within a few weeks, you definitely take notice.
I’d really love to hear from you all regarding readership lately. Have your stats been picking up significantly? Or is this just a fluke?
I must say it has been so nice reconnecting with you. I swear I didn’t abandon anyone on purpose. Navigating grief is a daily surprise. Even my friends in real life wouldn’t have a clue where I’m hiding if not for my dog’s Instagram account. True story.
Thank you to my long-time subscribers for sticking around. And thank you to all my new subscribers. You’ve all given me the inspiration to show my face and be a real, communicating human again!
I will see you sooner than two months from now! Promise.
Kristi
Hi Kristi, this is Mysterious Witt from Medium. That's great news that your stats are back up. What I've found from writing two accts on Medium (yup, I write under not one, but two noms de plume) is that if you get a viral story, just like in the old days, your stats will go up. Obviously, if you write viral story after viral story, you're good to go, and you'll have great stats in the "new Medium." But the regular day-to-day reality of Medium writing for most of us is that views are down. I used to write a story and automatically get 1000 views for an ordinary piece. Now getting 450 views is something to holler about. In fact, I recently got 450 views on a story that would have gotten me at least 3,000 before Medium changed. However, it's still good to know you're having some luck. I'm changing my strategy as I write, and I'm hoping for some positive change.
I think the title change helped. :)
